Frequently Asked Questions

How soon can you find gender?

Gender is determined at 13 weeks, if baby is in good position. If you wish to know the sex of your baby, we will do our utmost to find out. Sometimes, it is not possible to tell the sex immediately - (i.e. If baby has its legs crossed or is in an awkward position). On these occasions, we will ask you to take a break, have a short walk, some water, and then we will try again. Usually, this does the trick. However, if that doesn't work, we will offer you a rescan, at no charge. We will make an appointment a few days later in the hopes that baby has moved around. Please note that it is very rare for us to have to do this since our sonographers are all very experienced. We always take the time to point out and explain what you are looking at on the screen.

Does drinking water help?

It is so important for you to be drinking plenty of water throughout your pregnancy, especially 1-2 weeks prior to your session in order to get good vivid images. Ultrasound is a very natural process and although we discuss other factors that may affect the quality of your images, one thing for sure is that poor hydration will result in less than vivid images. Also, you know your baby better than anyone, if you think you know of a food, drink or activity that gets your baby moving, feel free to do them just before your visit to our facility. However, this is not mandatory (it is optional) and please do not over do it.

Can you guarantee good pictures?

Please note that no ultrasound company can guarantee good pictures or images every time. There are many factors that go into making a great scan, such as, baby's position…as we all know Baby rules!!!

Do you charge more for twins?

We DO NOT charge more for scanning twins, triplets or more! We do, however, recommend that you plan the scan a little earlier for multiple pregnancies,18-26 weeks usually gives the best results.

What is a 3D-4D ultrasound?

A 3D/4D scan is a simple computer reconstruction of a 2D scan using a special computer software. It works as follows: after the regular (2D) scan is done, several extra sweeps of the transducer will be used to generate the 3D/4D construction on the computer. Then, the image is displayed on the monitor. This volume sonography enables us to view the ultrasound images in a different dimension.

How long should an ultrasound take?

All of our elective scans are performed according to standards that restrict the scanning time (-20 min) which is within the time frame that has been proven safe over the last 30 years. However, the FDA discourages the use of ultrasound for non-medical reasons.

Our staff of certified and registered Sonographers have an extensive experience in ultrasound imaging and had to go through extensive testing to be registered in the American Registry of Diagnostics Medical Sonographers.
